Birthday Bash

Lily’s first birthday party has come and gone. I can’t say it went off without a hitch but we had a great time! Lily was lying on the ground ready to crash before the end of the event. Our little party girl was worn out!

My husband knows me well! He warned me early Saturday morning I had to much on my list and that I needed to re-prioritize. Of course I refused because I wanted to still try to get it all done but I did move a few things to the bottom of the list (like finishing the bunting I was sewing).

On the agenda for Saturday morning was Walt’s two hour run, putting together a patio table from Ikea, picking up the sandwiches, a veggie platter and beer from Costco, getting pinata goodies, a fruit tray, sangria ingredients and other groceries from Harris Teeter, hanging decorations, setting up the slip n slide and kiddie pools and getting a dog we were dog sitting settled in. We finished it with just a few minutes to spare (if you count that I was still barefoot and without makeup when guests started to arrive as being ready)! Thank goodness Lily was following her normal nap schedule!

The Birthday Girl!

Below are a few decorating projects and highlights from the party!

Lily’s party theme was cupcakes and owls. I made a paper bunting using scrapbook papers that matched the colors of the birthday napkins. I simply cut 9 inch triangles of each sheet and taped them to a ribbon!

I clothes-pinned pictures of her at each month of her first year (with the exception of month 2 – somehow it wasn’t in the pictures we ordered – probably user error).

Here are a few of close ups of Lily at 1 month and 10-12 months old.

The Cupcakes

The cupcakes, which were a hit, were custom made by Cupcake Cousins!

The Pinata Contents

We filled the pinata with goldfish, Toy Story and Nemo fruit snacks, curly straws, squiters (and Blow pops and Starbursts for the older kids). We put the bubbles on the table. I was concerned those may hurt the children if they fell on their heads.

The plasticware was in aluminum cans with a simple ribbon tied in a bow.

Below are pictures of Lily getting ready to change into her swimsuit to swim. She has grown so much over the past year! This is where our camera flashed ‘card full’ so the rest of the pictures are courtesy our guests!

Kiddie Pool and BubblesThe Pinata

The pinata was a pull string pinata. The bigger kids were a little disappointed at first but it worked well. Lily pulled the first string but then was a bystander for the rest.

 Cupcakes and Ice Cream!

I didn’t get all the decorations completed (like the bunting or balloons) but I don’t know that anyone noticed.

The paper goods were Sweet Treats from Party City. The Owl pinata was from 1st Wishes.

A special thanks to all our guests for making this such a special day and to Britt for the awesome cupcakes!

It was a great party. The kids had a blast. Anna was so glad you had a pinata.

Love your new blog look! Glad you got everything switched over. I’m ‘cleaning’ mine up next month. Might need some tips.

Thanks Crystal! I’m so glad you guys could make it! I’m so lost with this self-hosting. I took so many things for granted in my previous set up. I don’t even have an undo function in my blog post – help!

I love everything about Lily’s party. Her dress is adorable. Did you make that Angela? Cupcakes should be in Martha Stewart’s magazine. Great job…Mom!!! And she is only 1 year old….more creative surprises in store through the years. Your next challenge is Jacob’s birthday party. I forgot to pass on the idea of placing the cupcakes in the form of a cake design like a bear, etc. I saw that somewhere. You decorate accordingly…hugs to Lily..Sue
