Vintage Summer Mantel

I know Summer is halfway over and I'm a little late with this post but we have had quite a bit going on. The mantel decor has been up since early June but I just haven't had a chance to take photos. As I see Autumn inspiration filling the stores, I thought I'd better hurry up and document this Summer vignette.

I love antiques and I'm currently on a vintage kick. I have been collecting unique and aged pieces the past 4-5 months. I've been trying the items in various rooms to see where they work best. While this window ($25) landed on the mantel for Summer, I don't forsee this being it's permanent placement just a holding spot for now.

The mason jars are also from an antique show. I have a ton of mason jars from pickling our cucumbers {I'm sure my family members just fell out of their chairs to learn this metropolitan Dallas chic pickles cucumbers – surprise!} but what I really liked about these was the turquoise tint ($4 each). This seems like a cool, refreshing color for summer.

I thought I'd add to the vintage charm by adding twine and dressing them up with lace since I have both these items already on hand.

The ceramic bird and wooden birdhouse are leftovers from my Spring Bird Themed Mantel.

In addition to being on a vintage kick, I've been on a turquoise kick. I have been combining it with pink in Lily's room, with orange in our entryway, with green in Townes' room so I thought I'd add a splash of yellow here. I started by using yellow long stemmed flowers (as opposed to the plain white hydrangeas I started with). but the mirror seemed a little plan so I made a quick and easy bunting using some left over fabric and string from other projects.

I find it amusing that I went from never decorating my mantel to changing it for every season. I wonder how long that will last?

So what do you think? Does the mantel evoke a feeling of summer? Speaking of Summer, are you enjoying yours or are you like my husband and over it and already planning for Fall?

I love your mantel! I'm currently re-doing my living room and have no idea how I'm going to decorate my own mantel when I'm done, but this definitely gives me some ideas! I'd LOVE to see a picture of your whole fireplace – we're debating painting our brick fireplace white but can't decide.

  3. So fun, light and airy..your banner is adorable. Come link up to Centerpiece Wednesday on my blog and share you idea.
