Family Favorite Banana Pancakes (Flourless and Paleo Friendly)

Walt and I have been loosely following a Paleo lifestyle for about a year. In January, we decided to hit it hardcore and do the PaleoRestart. With it we gave up all packaged, processed and pre-made foods. We stuck with mostly whole foods. We didn’t do it to lose weight but to help cleanse our bodies and get back to healthy eating habits that we let go of over the holidays. While we gave up alcohol and sugar for 30 days we didn’t give up coffee as prescribed. We stocked up on decaf but coffee is part of our morning routine.

We just completed our 30 days on Friday. We loved it and felt so great that we are planning to stick with it. We gave ourselves the weekend to splurge but surprisingly we are looking forward to get back to the menu plan. More on that later (I think/hope).

One of the menu items we prepared for breakfast were these flourless paleo banana pancakes. Much like the cottage cheese pancakes I shared over a year ago, these paleo pancakes were a family hit!!! My kids ate them up and asked for more which is always a true test!

The recipe is from PaleoLeap. It’s grain free, dairy free, nut free and still tasty.



Serves 4 people

  • 4 large ripe bananas;
  • 6 eggs;
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract;
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon;
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Fresh fruit



  1. Crack the eggs in a bowl and whisk them.
  2. In another bowl, lightly mash the bananas with a potato masher or a fork.
  3. Add the egg, the baking powder,  the vanilla, and the cinnamon to the mashed bananas and stir to combine.
  4. Heat skillet on medium-low hear. Pour about 2 tablespoons of the batter onto a skillet and cook until the bottom appears set (1 to 2 minutes). Flip with a spatula and cook another minute.
  5. Serve immediately, topped with fresh fruit and/or maple syrup (or dark chocolate chips for a special treat).


I ate mine with fruit, my husband ops for maple syrup. For the kids….I try to avoid syrups whenever possible. My boys, in particular, seem to bounce off walls with too much sugar. I don’t want to deprive them of the fun foods and childhood staples but sugary cereals and syrups don’t seem to serve them well. So all that to say, I didn’t give them syrup for their pancakes but instead gave them the option to have dark chocolate chips banana pancakes and of course they all opted for the chocolate chips. I’ve convinced myself it was the lesser of two evils.
