Hi, I’m back to talk a little more about my office makeover and my recent diy storage end table project.
The room has been a wreck for years but I feel like I’m finally getting it under control – ALMOST.
This was the design plan in 2011.
The original design and layout have evolved as we have tried a few different things out.
The first item I tackled was the desk. The corner desk took up too much space so I opted for something more slender as previewed in my previous post.
With the new desk, I no longer needed the hall table that I was using for the printer so I needed to find a better spot for the 3 drawer craft storage cube.
I considered giving it away and replacing it with something like this Ikea cart
but then realized it was an unnecessary expense with my tight budget. While I was trying to figure out where to put it, I had a crazy idea to repurpose it for another item on my list – an end table!
It wasn’t the right height. I need about 6 more inches to make it work. All I needed to do was find legs. A quick internet search found these Capita legs from Ikea.
I purchased a birch plyboard and had Lowe’s cut it to size.
I screwed the Capita legs to the plyboard
and then storage cube to the plyboard and voila!
A new end table was created!
I’m pretty pleased with how this low-budget temporary end table solution turned out!! (Despite one minor glitch – I had a tough time getting the screws flush to the surface and once I did, one was getting caught on the bottom of the drawer so I lightly sanded the bottom drawer where it was hitting the screw head and it’s all good now.)
To finish it off, I stole a few books from the living room and a plant from the kitchen and added ceramic coasters my sister-in-law made us for table top decor. I liked the color combo so much that it became the inspiration for the rest of the office decor. So instead of the blue grey originally planned, it now has punches of turquoise and coral which make the dark room a little more cheerful and pleasant!
Also, I have since stained the plywood with the same stain I used on my desk top to give it a little color.
Oh and I still plan to get the Ikea storage cart for another space in the office eventually ;).
Thanks for stopping by! Up next are the quick and easy finishing touches – I hope!
