Usually I don’t decorate for Thanksgiving but I have been inspired by all the fall projects and crafts I’ve seen online that I thought I would try. I started with the mantel.

I love each individual piece but at times I feel like it looks a little thrown together. Nevertheless, it adds color and textures to a mantel that was sorely neglected. And at a reasonable price since I tried to use materials I had on hand.
The details
I went around and around on a center piece and I temporarily settled on a wreath. I tried a floral wreath and a ribbon wreath but it was either to bold or to blah. So for now I have a plain wood wreath hanging from a ribbon with our monogram in the center. I left the letter white for contrast. My husband says the wreath is too plain and needs a ribbon or flowers – what do you think?

I’d like to do something like this…

but Michael’s was out of burlap and I haven’t had a chance to check a local fabric store.

On the left side of the mantel, the white Tuscan urn is from PotteryBarn with silk flowers from Michael’s. The far left candle is a clear vase filled with pumpkins and acorns and topped with a glass jar candle from Ikea. The leather frame contains a free fall subway art printable. My son and I collected the branches from our yard and I added a branch of silk leaves for a touch of color. The white ceramic vases are from Target. I applied vinyl stickers to spell out Fall so I can reuse these for other seasons. I had a hurricane vase filled with wine corks and a candle in my dining room that I moved to the mantel. Yes, that is a margarita glass filled with pinecones and pumpkins. We don’t use these glasses often. We pulled them off the top shelf this weekend to enjoy margaritas and it gave me the idea! The pinecones are from Michaels and have a fall harvest scent further emphasizing the fall mood! I simply secured a leaf to a candle with some twine scraps I had on hand. I love this Autumn candle I purchased from Target this season!! It sits on metal leaf candle holder also from Target (each $4.99). Side angle view I invite your comments and questions!! Stay tuned for other upcoming fall crafts!
