Next up on my Holiday treat series are Apple Dumplings. These are not necessarily a Christmas goodie. Instead it was something I came across on Thrifty Decor Chick and it looked just divine that I had to find an occasion/excuse to prepare it!! I decided to whip these up for our last minute Christmas Eve dinner. Yes, this was a bit risky because anyone that really knows me knows I’m not a great cook and only a mediocre baker. I must have been feeling brave this day because my only back up was dark chocolate candy.

These are delicious!!! If you took a peak at the ingredients you know why! How can you mix butter, sugar, and cinnamon and it not be great?
I prepped these shortly before our guests arrived and threw them in the oven when we sat down for dinner so I didn’t have a chance to take in progress photos. The in progress photo below is via an inspiration site!
Ingredients:
- 2 Granny Smith apples
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 package of 8 count crescent rolls (The recipe called for 2 packages but my apples were medium size and I cut the crescent rolls in half so I only used 1 package.)
- 1 cup of butter (that’s right two sticks!)
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- 12 ounces of Mountain Dew ( I know this sounds crazy just trust the recipe! I substituted this with Diet Mountain Dew and it still was yummy!!)
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven at 350 degrees.
- Peel and slice the apples. I used my handy dandy apple wedger from Pampered Chef.
- Wrap the apple slices in a crescent roll and place them in a baking dish.
- Melt the butter. (I just melted it in the microwave in a medium bowl)
- Mix the melted butter, sugar and vanilla.
- Pour the sugar mixture over the apples.
- Pour in the Mountain Dew.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon. (Here I also sprinkled it with a little brown sugar – couldn’t resist.)Photo via Or So She Says
- Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. Until crescents are nice and toasty.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream. This is optional but why not?!?
I’m still thrilled this turned out!! It finished right when we were wrapping up dinner so I was able to serve it nice and hot! Perfect!! Our guests described it as a mini apple pie with a crispy flaky top and moist bottom – yummy!!
This is one recipe I highly recommend!! I only hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
And a few pictures from our dinner. I said I wouldn’t share these but I think they were nice pictures so I changed my mind. Sarah, Britt, let me know if you hate them and I’ll take them down. Thanks for sharing your Christmas Eve with us!!
